Here are some actual sample statements and some comments about each one.
Example 1 from LinkedIn
My goal is simple; to help my clients acheive theirs. Whether they are seeking to grow the business, launch a product, maintain and expand relationships with their clients, or remind their employees that they are valued and appreciated; I provide an avenue to acheive all of this through an integrated approach that includes promotional products, printed materials, multi media, and public relations.
Huh, sorry I drifted off. Too long, too detailed and they need to learn how to spell the word achieve!
Example 2 from Los Angeles
The only company to promote and protect your brands.
I admire this one quite a bit. It’s broad-based so there’s several directions they can go with their marketing. It’s short and memorable.
The clincher for me is the use of the word protect. It’s a little different and unexpected.
I’d talk to these guys.
Example 3 from New York
Welcome to ABC Company, a promotional world of ad specialties with the best prices, the best customer service, and the most originality. We have more than 25 years of experience supplying promotional products for Fortune 500 clients.
The best, the best and the most. Come on, the best, really? I doubt it, but I’ll never know because there’s nothing memorable or unique about them.
Example 4 from LinkedIn
10 years experience in the Promotional Products industry, Extensive background in marketing, advertising and design. I use my creative talents to create unique and effective promotional product campaigns for a broad range of clients in the Insurance, Pharmaceutical, and Entertainment industries, as well as Automotive and Government programs.
I like the idea of targeting specific industries and presenting yourself as an expert.
A “broad range of clients” seems to clash with targeting four specific industries.
Too many adjectives and subjective statements like “creative talents”.
Example 5 from LinkedIn
My company provides promotional product ideas on time and within budget.
Points for brevity, but isn’t every supplier supposed to be on time and on budget?
Example 6 from LinkedIn
If you are looking for a promotional item or corporate giveaways, email me at abcdef@ghijkl.com so I can give you a special discount.
In my mind the worst possible approach. Let me cut my price before I even meet you or have a clue about what your need. I wonder how that works for repeat sales?
Example 7 from The Vernon Company
We can help you get where you want to go
Pretty vague, it doesn’t tell me a thing about what we actually do. I think it’s time for an overhaul.
Here’s some excerpts from the “What do you sell", section of my marketing plan for The Vernon Company
